Rabbit Deterrents
Rabbits destroy many young trees each winter. To prevent their attacks
swab the trunks with a mixture of cayenne pepper (one ounce) and lard or
other soft grease (one pound). The time to do this is before heavy
snowfall. Swab it as high as the expected depth of the snow plus the reach
of the rabbit-say 30". Use rubber gloves to protect the hands
when applying or the pepper will burn! The amount given should be
enough for 50 young trees.
