Legumes
Legume gumption: When in doubt, inoculate!
Grow legumes to feed the soil and the family. Bacteria on legumes not
only work without pay but pay for the privilege. Inoculated legumes
can use nitrogen from the soil air; other crops must depend upon
the limited stock of nitrates in the soil. Gardening without
legumes is like writing checks on the bank without having made deposits
there.
