Spearmint
Spearmint rapidly develops flower stalks and the leaves become poor, small
and inferior for flavor ing at just the time wanted most for seasoning
drinks. To overcome this cut half the plants close to the ground
in early summer and give the soil a thorough, deep soaking with liquid
manure. New stems with tender leaves will soon develop. When they
are large enough to use cut down the other half of the patch and
treat it the same way. Water liberally and deeply during hot
weather. Two beds may thus be kept producing "hand over hand" all
season.
