TREES--DETERMINING SEX
The only way to determine the sex of a tree is to view the flowers when
blooming.
Male flowers will produce pollen when the blooms are shaken over a piece
of black construction paper.
Female flowers do not produce pollen when shaken. The stigma may appear
shiny and sticky.
Flowers appear on most shade trees anywhere from five to twenty years
after planting; blooms may appear on shade trees within two years after
planting.
