PEACH--WINTER INJURY

Peach trees are susceptible to extreme cold temperatures and rapid shift of temperatures (hot to cold to hot). The cambium layer beneath the bark is easily killed. Trees will leaf out in the spring and then rapidly die.

The crotches of the trees (where limbs intersect each other or the trunk) are the most susceptible and will ooze sap, giving the impression of borers. However, the cambial tissue beneath the bark will be a tan to dark brown instead of a whitish, cream or green color.

Winter injury can't really be prevented.
