FERNS - GROWING
Most ferns prefer a loose, organic soil; diffused or filtered light (north
windows), high humidity and sufficient moisture to keep the soil from drying
out. Excessive moisture can rot the plant. Dry conditions, such as those
during winter when furnaces dry the air, can cause yellowing leaves and
thinning of the plant.
Too much light can also cause plants to yellow and thin.
FERNS - BROWN PUSTULES
Rows of brown shell-like pustules on the underside of fern leaves, especially
Boston and Maidenhair ferns, are spore casings and NOT insects. Do not
remove.
The spores are an indication that the plant is growing ideally and is
trying to propagate itself.
